![]() Therefore I want to get some work done on the exhaust aswell, first to let this engine breath better and secondly trying to keep the noise levels coming from the pipes down somewhat, if at all possible. The engine will be a lot more bigger and seriously build. Now all of this (engine and exhaust) will be removed soon. It does sound allright and cool, but not for a convertible. So in all, even with a 383 I'm still not at all happy with the exhaust noise on the car. I guess the old Flowmasters on the wagon have been coated with coal inside, taming them down a lot. But this same system on the convertible made a much much louder noise, way louder then with the Dynomax mufflers. No typical Flowmaster-sound at idle at all unless you get into the throttle. On this car with currently a low cr 383ci, I went from a pressbend 2.5" system with a pair of Dynomax mufflers to a 2-1/4" pressbend exhaust with 50-series FlowMasters, just like I have on my '62 413 powered wagon, on which it sounds really sweet. It sounds like a nice little warmed over small block just driving around. I had the Flowmaster Big Block/SUV 50 series and they were louder than the Dynomax's and slower too.īy way of comparison this is a 580" big block, 11:1 pump gas motor that made 708 HP on the Westech chassis dyno and the car runs 10.0's at 135 or so at 4250# in a 71 Mustang convertible. The Magnaflows are unbearable for long drives. I use small case Magnafows of the same configuration at the track which are much louder and worth maybe two tenths and 2-3 MPH in the 1/4 mile. I can drive and have a normal volume conversation top up or down. The short bullets made no difference at all in sound level. I am really happy with my 'QUIET' setup, 3.5 Dr, Gas X-pipe reduced down to 3" into large case Dynomax Welded Ultraflow mufflers (3" side inlet, 3" center outlet over the axle and out through 18" Dynomax Bullets and 3.5" angle cut tips. dual 2-1/4 have cross sectional area of 7.09 square inches. ![]() The theory is 2-1/4 is good for 200 crank hp and 3 inch is good for 400 crank hp. However, most exhaust theory articles will say dual 2-1/4s are equal to one 3 inch. Reviewed in the United States on November 19, 2018. 5.0 out of 5 stars 2011 Chevy suburban 3 inch exhaust. It isn't cheap, but it's not horribly priced either, probably about the same or a little cheaper than most pre-made aftermarket exhausts.Re: Quiet full length 3' exhaust system (Dynomax mufflers). 2-1/4 has more surface area to cross section than 3 inch, thus making it not as efficient. Buy Walker Exhaust Quiet-Flow 22677 Exhaust Muffler: Mufflers. You could go there and have them build you a fully mandrel bent stainless steel 2.5" exhaust with a resonator and the muffler of your choice. If you're interested I bought my exhaust from. ![]() His doesn't sound horrible by any means, but mine definitely sounds a little more refined. My friend runs a similar setup, but instead of mandrel-bent stainless, he's just using crush bent steel piping from a muffler shop. It's sporty and growly, but never overly loud and annoying. Vibrant 3 Inch Ultra Quiet Resonator as Muffler Best Overall Vibrant 3 Ultra Quiet Resonator is designed to dampen exhaust noise and facilitate undisrupted exhaust flow. on my car I have a full stainless-steel mandrel bent catback, with a Magnaflow resonator and Magnaflow muffler, and I really love the way it sounds. Below are some of the best quiet performance mufflers in the market that will give you optimal engine and reduced noise performance. The quality of the piping and bends probably has a little bit to do with it as well. on the other hand, something like the Apex'i WS that has a more stock-looking oval-shaped muffler is a lot more subdued. Something like an N1 style that uses a thin canister-type muffler tend to be loud. Look at the aftermarket exhausts that are out there and think about which ones are loud and which ones are quiet. We headed to Westech Performance Group to test out top brand exhaust mufflers to see which provided the best torque and horsepower, sound is subjective. The trick to a quiet exist (in my opinion anyway) is to have a decently sized resonator and a muffler with a decent amount of resonating material inside it.
